lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Monday, 26-Jan-2015 17:18:55 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @navigium @mcnalu With zero-price certs from #CaCert, #StartSSL, and soon #Mozilla, cost is not really an issue any more.

lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Wednesday, 21-Jan-2015 21:31:27 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @knuthollund When you install the #CACert root cert, you usually have to choose what to trust it to do (sign web server certs, sign application code, etc). I’ve noticed that even though #StartSSL was preinstalled in my browsers, some browsers (and #Choqok) keep telling me it isn’t trusted for signing web certs.

lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 01:45:24 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @windigo @roland @nds That conversation concluded 8-9 months ago. I don’t think sites that use #StartSSL have to worry about browser vendors dropping their certs. What we do need to be aware of is that you have to be willing and able to pay their revocation fee if there is another #Heartbleed. If you are not, you should use Gandi or someone else where payment happens up front. -

Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Saturday, 17-Jan-2015 12:28:21 CET Roland Häder @mmn I do really hope that #CACert is replacing its week certificates. #StartSSL was not always the best free (beer) certificate provider, see #revocation due to #heartbleed bug. -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 17-Jan-2015 11:53:56 CET mmn #StartSSL active on quitter.es now - no more certificate errors I hope! (though I wish people could just install #CAcert...) -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 17-Jan-2015 00:15:49 CET mmn #QuitterEspañol has already, since like an hour back, gotten 38 users. And that's with a #CAcert issued certificate (since #StartSSL has some weird maintenance thing going on during the night right now). -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Thursday, 15-Jan-2015 02:33:06 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @#federatidotnet !fnetworks New #StartSSL #TLS certs installed for SN and Friendica sites. Prosody #XMPP cert to be installed soon. -

lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Tuesday, 13-Jan-2015 09:13:45 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) The #StartSSL cert here expires in a few hours. I’ll try to get the updated cert deployed in the morning. @#federatidotnet -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Thursday, 08-Jan-2015 19:06:56 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @mmn @windigo My biggest objection to #StartSSL (besides endorsing the CA mafia at all) is that when there’s a big flaw like #heartbleed, those gratis certs cost money to revoke. Better to pay up front and revoke without added cost. (NOTE: I am currently using them for this domain.) -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Thursday, 08-Jan-2015 18:38:36 CET mmn Is there a reason you're not using #StartSSL for free as in gratis certs, trusted in your everyday browsers? -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Thursday, 04-Dec-2014 21:02:49 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @daw I haven’t set it up (yet) because I can’t log into my #StartSSL account any more (and no $ to pay for a cert). I’d go with #CACert, but it isn’t in the default bundle of certs for most OS/browser combinations. -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Thursday, 20-Nov-2014 17:53:43 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) I intended to set up both !RedMatrix and !Diaspora on !fnetworks‘ #S2FN server, but hoping not to use #StartSSL (zero upfront cost, but when there’s a #heartbleed, costs to revoke & reissue). -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Thursday, 23-Oct-2014 08:27:58 CEST lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @larjona I do not know the answer to that question, but I do know that #StartSSL offers zero-price certs. -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Tuesday, 21-Oct-2014 07:07:47 CEST lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @mbjunior So #CACert and #StartSSL help by taking the payment out of the mix. So I’ve got a cert signed by StartSSL for this SN instance. It cost me nothing. But it still supports a corrupt and dangerously insecure model.
