Weird #private !gnusocial bug : uploading and displaying an image from the classic UI works, but it points to /main/login in !qvitter cc @mmn @hannes2peer

@andstatus yes, #private #dents are more important than an old feature like direct messages.

The #difference between #facebook #xing #linkedin + all the other "social networks" to !gnusocial or !diaspora is not just that they are #closed-source and they are "single islands" (just one installation) but also how the data is stored. Remember: #NSABook and co can easily sell your data because they keep it secret. Here on the #FLOSS social networks, we have a real network (more than one instance) and most dents are #public. Sure, you can write #private dents but that dent remains local then.

I mean that I don't oppose #facebook and the others but I don't like to know that my #private data is sold to advertisers because private is private and public is #public.

What I mean is that, how can you sell public data? Everyone can access it. Sure, there is some data that is #private or even #intimate and sure that doesn't belong into the hands of #corporations like the ones I mentioned before. So better #setup your #own instance and your private data remains with you. Any other thoughts, dear !fediverse ?

@hannes2peer maybe !qvitter / !gnusocial should ask 4 confirmation for the #private setting, esp. as private is notyet supported via Ostatus
-
@hannes2peer if a new user accidentally sets their acct to #private, nothing in !qvitter seems to tell them there are subscription requests

@aroque I won't be surprised if there's no support for #private posts to remote users in the !Ostatus protocol [disclaimer:no expert here]

How disruptive would it be to change the domain name of a !gnusocial instance? At least in the case of a #private site, I guess it should be possible to update the database and bring the site back to a working state. Is that true? /cc @mmn
