In Hungary, new law would make using encryption software punishable by 2 years in prison
The measure is part of a new antiterrorism legislation package put forward by the Interior Ministry, and was first presented on 31 March by János Lázár, the Minister heading the Prime Minister's Office.
If the package is implemented in its present form, anyone caught using encrypted software can be punished by 2 years of prison. The providers would be obliged to ensure access to the content of the encrypted messages, and they would have to provide the identification data of the users as well as the IP address used for registration. Failure to comply qualifies as misdemeanor, and is also punishable with a 2 years prison sentence.
The antiterrorism package also contains provisions regarding an increase of surveillance in public spaces and enables the Interior Ministry to prohibit mass events.

@mk @atarifrosch @lohang @chimo @vinzv @benediktg@gnusocial.de thank you, I'm happy that my Internet connection is now even a bit faster: ~ 50,000 MBit downstream and 6 MBit upstream (at least). Well, if I would know that life in e.g. #Romania or #Hungary is good enough to make a living, then I would probably go there as they have synchronous DSL with fibre-channel for only ~8 EUR per month ... For such thing here in #Germany you pay 100,- per month + setup.

@hannes2peer where is that server standing? In a hosting center or at home? If at home, wow. :) I found it amazing that here in #Germany copper wire is more common over optic fiber, even when Germany is known as a "High-Tech" country. For example in #Rumania and #Hungary there is optic (fiber glass, 10 MBit/sec) very common and cheat (~ 8 EUR per month). Here in Germany it is ~ 100 EUR per month + 200-300 EUR setup.
