... the above sounds more negative than I meant it. What I meant is that I hope that PHP-based wikis implement full #federated interop with #SFW, so people who cannot host Node-based apps can still host wiki instances for GS. #PHP #Node.js #federation
-
@majestyx I know mediagoblin and perhaps #quit.im (cc/ @hannes2peer) could be adapted to be a #federated #youtube alternative as well
-
@luke @cmhobbs I saw a proposal a few years ago for a #federated #socnet that was based on fingering one another's .plan files.

Of course, I dread the day that someone takes jonkman.ca Can't !selfhost Domain Name Services -- we need an independent, #Federated Domain Name Service!

@lohang @hannes2peer I do think data export & import is a much more difficult problem in a #federated network than something like !Twitter. Not impossible, of course, but more difficult to solve. If you export your T data, where are you going to take it? Nowhere except back to Twitter. If you export from #q.se, you may take it to #loadaverage or #q.es or #q.no
-
@zoowar I'm sure most were on #Twitter first before they ever heard of GS or other #federated #socnets. @luke
-
@moshpirit !gnusocial has a small team of volunteers doing the development, much like !friendica, !redmatrix, and other #federated #socnets that are likewise not participating. It is hard to fault them for not having extra time for yet another attempt to go through the #W3C process.
-
I did not even realize that the site I called #MakrCities is gone (replaced by someone's generic #Wordpress). But in addition to all its other issues, makr dot io was not #federated, had no visible means of revenue-generation, had multiple well-funded competitive sites, and was not (AFAIK) #FLOSS.
-
@x11r5 We're just glad you did land here (and also on #PumpIO). Too bad you're not on #Friendica, #RedMatrix, or #Diaspora. Until our #federated networks can talk to one another, people there will not hear your campaign rhetoric. #bot_in_the_house
-
@heluecht @dragnucs @kris @0x6c08f220 Well, not _all_ other #federated networks. Many #Pump.IO users make all posts public because otherwise comments fail to propagate to other servers, leading to the well-known "talking with ghosts" problem. But there are proposals to fix that, too.
-
@kris There are already a couple of efforts to get most #federated platforms to speak implement a common dialect. The #W3C effort started with #Pump.IO's protocol, but I've not monitored it to see what changes (if any) it made. Another effort (called #TheFederation) seeks to build on the way that ~f, r#, and d* already speak d*. However, GS needs more people contributing code in order for either one to succeed in joining our network to others.
-
@daw a #newhere person mentioned that #federated networks tend to discuss more serious topics than they discuss in the #lockiverse
-
@moshpirit What do you think about the #newhere tag, as used on !Diaspora? If it helps people integrate more easily into the #federated network, maybe we need to do something similar for !gnusocial.
-
@mcscx @aroque @roelofpieter #federated deletion can be troublesome because someone else may control other servers. No way to be sure data is actually deleted. No way to know that centralized services actually delete, either.

I love this !sn / !gnusocial network. Nowhere else have I seen such heated disagreements as we've had recently without "I hate you and I never want to hear from you again." Maybe we attract a different crowd from other networks (even other #federated networks).
