Lohan G (lohang)'s status on Thursday, 20-Aug-2015 10:03:39 CEST Lohan G @kat it is not possible to migrate a group or a user account unless both original and target instances are yours. In this case @erkan might help migrating user data, but generally, your data is locked inside a walled garden if you don't host your own instance. This is one of the most disturbing things in !GNUsocial . Most users join another walled garden abandoning Twitter. (Twitter at least provides a downloadable version of Tweets that can be opened in a web browser.) #dataportability -

Erkan Yılmaz (erkanyilmaz)'s status on Thursday, 13-Aug-2015 15:05:25 CEST Erkan Yılmaz This instance will still exist for a little while, so no pressure. Actually a msg from private conversation leaked (thx SN/GS). #Help would be needed for the #data_portability http://www.skilledtests.com/wiki/Statusnet_problems#data_portability -
Erkan Yılmaz (erkanyilmaz)'s status on Thursday, 13-Aug-2015 13:02:45 CEST Erkan Yılmaz no you should read it as: the blockchain is a central point, so there must be a fix for the problem. If/when there is such a problem in the future. Here in GS people/devs can just ignore the #data_portability (due to prio, ... or whatever) and thus binding the users still to their original instance. if the blockchain would ever be too large: it'd deter new users (since you have to download all first). It'd be a central problem. Also for non-new-users, thus MUST be addressed -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Thursday, 19-Feb-2015 15:11:26 CET Roland Häder @erkan I think #data-portability is to much/hard for @mmn to archive? You @marcusmoeller also need to see how !gs is created. First there was an other software, it was not named canoncial, but differently. Then from that (ugly) code was #StatusNet generated. Meanwhile !gnusocial has been worked on, also #FreeSocial from @mmn. Then there was a large merger done by mmn to merge recent #statusnet and his own code in #freesocial back into #gnusocial (if I'm right). That is no easy work. :-) -

lohang (lohang)'s status on Tuesday, 27-Jan-2015 11:53:59 CET lohang Another thought: I think it is OK to have such a feature as a plugin, instead of adding it to main GNUSocial code. But that raises another concern: Pressure generated from various mainstream social media sites can drive this in the wrong direction and most of the public nodes may end up using such features. This seems to be happening with #Qvitter . Due to it's popularity lot of documentation and even translations are being done for #Qvitter . It is fast becomin…
