Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 15:56:58 CET Roland Häder @mmn Idea for partly-avoiding duplicate user names: Check whole #profile table + #ostatus_profile for duplicate nickname. This will at least exclude remote accounts that are "known" to the instance. If not yet implemented. ;-) -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 16:07:26 CET mmn Huh? You mean people shouldn't be able to have the same username as someone else - even if they're on another server? Roland Häder likes this. -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 16:15:49 CET Roland Häder @mmn Yes, due to problems in #gs and #sn instances, if the same nickname exists on another server. Same for groups. I then would recommend a config entry common_config('site', 'allow_duplicate_remote_nickname') or so. -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 22:32:22 CET mmn Would you say the same for email? If @hotmail.com registers a thousand nicknames, why shouldn't @gmail.com let users register the same there? -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 22:34:30 CET Roland Häder @mmn the problem here is that many #gs / #sn instances are not compatible with it and it may cause problems (wrong routed messages and then failing verifications). You may wish to ask @erkanyilmaz about it. I think he was the first to bring it to my attension. -
lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 22:39:26 CET lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @roland @mmn @erkanyilmaz I think a better solution is to let the fullname (user@host) override shortnames (@user), even when the shortname is a known account to the server.

mmn (mmn)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jan-2015 23:39:01 CET mmn That's simply not a good solution. -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:06:36 CET Roland Häder @mmn Meaning me? I can change my mind if I see a better solution (and understand it). And what @erkan writes makes more sense: @roland@social.mxchange.org is valued higher than just @roland. -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:08:40 CET mmn Yes, a full WebFinger ID should be prioritised. My comment was regarding applying arbitrary centralisation restrictions on the nickname system. Roland Häder likes this. -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:16:28 CET Roland Häder @mmn Okay, now I understand it fully. :) Then lets focus on this, if it is still broken. Well, not all webmasters have switched to #gnusocial. Maybe because of they are afraid of loosing data? Just do a backup (they are real life-safers). -
Roland Häder (roland)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:18:07 CET Roland Häder @mmn Have you thought - besides of going to bed ;-) - about private keys and signing, similar like !diaspora does? -
mmn (mmn)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:22:30 CET mmn I have a secret desire to implement a Diaspora-compatible protocol directly to !gnusocial core. Roland Häder likes this. -
Erkan Yılmaz (erkan)'s status on Monday, 19-Jan-2015 00:37:51 CET Erkan Yılmaz I wonder if it goes faster when you get the specific code from !friendica (which is also in #php) -
