copying Photos directory from 'old' Segate drive (nr.2) to new StarTech/WD - amazed how fast Ext4->USB3->Ext4 goes... two or three orders of magnitude faster than NTFS->USB2->USB3->Ext4 goes. While Linux does 'support' NTFS it's impossibly slow, and I can't figure out why

wow. it's done already! instead of many many *weeks* to get this off the NTFS drive over USB 2 it only took about 2 hours to copy between Ext4 over USB 3. incroyable!

@mk small files make copying dead slow. It doesn't matter if you are using USB 3.0 or 2.0 you'll copy small files at less that 300 KiB/s. I personaly tested it and Linux performs better than windows in NTFS -> USB 3.0 -> NTFS or EXT4 -> USB 2.0 -> NTFS or whatever combination you want. Atleast, GNU/linux can mantain a constant and steady copying speed compared to windows.

@dragnucs I have formated some USB sticks here with #ext4. The transfer speed is fine (for USB).

@dragnucs yes, I've found that, too. but I'm comparing copying speed of the *same* set of files - the only difference is the hardware
