We have similar problems in Tamil Nadu when there is not enough wind to power the windmills. Currently, such dubious projects as the Kudankulam nuclear power plant are underway.
- clacke repeated this.

First it was due to lack of rain. It affects all the hydropower plants.
And this week it was due to a breakdown in a coal plant. http://www.economynext.com/Sri_Lanka_may_cut_power_until_coal_plants_are_re_started-3-6368.html This is why they started this 2 1/5 power cut.

@lohang haha :-D

@arunisaac @lohang In principle, nuclear power plant seems like a great idea. Please enlighten me. Budget? Shoddy construction? Corruption?
-
Lack of transparency. Corruption and carelessness -- I just don't trust the Indian government/bureaucracy to be careful and sincere enough to keep a nuclear reactor running safely. Nuclear suppliers not willing to take liability for accidents/malfunction. Much safer renewable energy sources are available.
We shouldn't blindly head towards energy intensive American/European lifestyle. We must reduce energy consumption as well. Simply increasing energy production at any cost is not a long term solution.

@arunisaac Good answer. Thanks!
