I use
Clamav for GNU/linux distributions
Clamwin with clam sentinel for M$ os

"slower program starts"
That's weird because in a long period of time I used/tested most of all AV and I find this one the most fluid.
About feeling secure, I feel myself being more secure with a software that is free/libre software.
I don't find it reasonable to use a software for security if I can't verify (myself or not).

We have #avast #free-antivirus here and their popups are really annoying. On many pages like #heise.de or #spon I got this anyoing popup about how many viruses they have stopped. And it slows down everything. So the logical choice was to uninstall it (I used their feedback and choose "to much ads").

I tried it but found it superfluous, it just caused more I/O load on my hard drive, slower program starts and anti-virus scanners give the wrong feeling of being secure (but you are not).
