@kzimmermann my 2 cent: don't use singleuser mode, unless you have specific reasons. It's weird and you won't be able to change it later
- lnxw48 (Linux Walt) likes this.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do a browserless installation of #GNUSocial? Like without browsing to install.php? Doing it by hand?
-
@kzimmermann You'd probably get more help if you asked !gnusocial.
-
@kzimmermann That should be interesting.
-
@kzimmermann I've never tried it, but there's this: https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/blob/master/scripts/install_cli.php
-
@chimo @kzimmermann I tried it ages ago. Iirc it worked showing the same steps like the web based installer.
-
@kzimmermann what's your "post_max_size" value in php.ini? http://php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.post-max-size @vinzv
-
@kzimmermann im not quite sure...i guess(!) if there is something wrong, it will be in the webservers log...or tail -f /var/log/php5-fpm.log (or similar)
-
@kzimmermann did you doublechecked the permissions? my gnu-social folder is currently owned by www-data: and i did a chmod a+w to it. (https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/blob/master/INSTALL#L114)
-
@kzimmermann GS has a quota for attachments, but that's it I think. What about your lighttpd 'server.max-request-size' value? http://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/1/wiki/Server_max-request-sizeDetails
-
@kzimmermann https://secure.php.net/manual/en/book.errorfunc.php
-
@kzimmermann ...oh...not sure if it was the right page...
-
@kzimmermann well...im not quite sure, and the path is maybe a bit different for you but you can control the error handeling for sure. /etc/php5/fpm/php.ini
-
@kzimmermann i mean logging
-
@kzimmermann If you installed your instance as 'private' it won't federate. Otherwise, you might be able to set this to 'false': https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/blob/master/CONFIGURE#L331
-
@kzimmermann @kzimmermann i have a similar problem here... maybe the server has to lern the network. but i dont understand why $config['public']['localonly'] = false; hasnt any effect...
-
@kzimmermann *thats a feature from https://git.gnu.io/h2p/Qvitter
-
@chimo @kzimmermann $config['public']['localonly'] = false; ?
-
@tchncs @kzimmermann Actually now that I look at it, it might not be possible to overwrite that value from config.php (it's been a while since I did an install!)
Basically, there are different "site profiles" you can choose from when installing ( ex: SingleuserSite, CommunitySite, PrivateSite, PublicSite ).
And depending on what you choose, you'll get different features/plugins/options.
The "localonly" configuration is only set to 'false' for instances that use the "Public" site profile.
You can have a look at these for an idea of what the differences are:
Default settings: https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/blob/master/lib/default.php
Site profile settings (overwrites some defaults): https://git.gnu.io/gnu/gnu-social/blob/master/lib/siteprofile.php
-
@chimo @kzimmermann sorry i forgot that i asked it in english also...it taked a while, im not quit sure if it was my setting line...but now its there...after so much tryes...its there...so damn cool :D
-
@tchncs Oh good :)
-
@mcscx @kzimmermann no kidding? this should always be configurable o.O
-
@kzimmermann @mcscx For one thing, the server URL is also the user's URL. Since many things in GS expect server_URL/user, you may see intermittent failures. Also, if you decide to create a #bot later, changing the site type will break your account's federation. I agree with mcscx: you should not use single-user mode unless you have a specific reason for choosing it.
-
@mcscx Actually I've changed it (I think everywhere) so singleuser mode acts just like the others. The profile URL is generated with nickname included etc.
-
(Example: if you wish to have a #bot post #weather readings.)
-
@kzimmermann I don't think (though havent tried) that a multiuser instance w/ only 1 user needs any more resoures than a singleuser instance
-
@mcscx For some weird reason I wrote your nickname instead of @lnxw48. I think it's time to go to bed. @lnxw48, check this post's parent.
-
@mcscx NO it was meant for you! Gah. My eyes are teasing me. But @lnxw48 apparently also recommended not using single user mode, while it _should_ be perfectly safe now.
-
@mmn I am glad you've fixed it. I've watched some instances struggle because of this over the years.
-
@mmn Oooh, I might add a few bots to my instance then :D Thanks for fixing
-
@chimo Wait, how is the "singleuser" site profile related to bots?
-
@kzimmermann You should probably fix whatever caused the web installation to fail, or that _same error_ will haunt you during usage. Just getting past the big hurdle by digging through it instead of climbing over it will cause a bunch of dirt to fall on your head midway through.
-
@mmn I'm on single-user right now; can't add accounts for bots. If I understand correctly I should now be able to switch to multi-user without breaking things (subscriptions/other URLs)?
-
@chimo Aha, yes! I think so. Try it. Otherwise it'll just be my final, ingenious anti-chimo stunt.
