No knowledge of current models, but generally, seek 64-bits OS and more than 4GiB of RAM. Mine is about 2 1/2 years old and #Chrome can use a big chunk of that with 8-12 tabs that have heavy #JavaScript.

If you're the recipient of hand-me-down laptops, recommend one that will run !Linux well in a couple of years

@daw In a couple of months, just about every #Win8.1 laptop will come with a "free upgrade" to #Win10, if previous experience is repeated. Look for something that will remain useful for a few years (which is why I mentioned extra RAM). Something that can easily be converted to run #GNU + #Linux or another operating system is also likely to be useful for longer time period.

@daw They could also have gone #Win8 → #Win9 → #Win10 ... but that made too much sense.

most anything will run Linux fine by the time I get it, I'm sure.
