Wow, I have seen an #Bitmain #Antminer #S5 for 519 EUR which makes 1150 GHashes/sec. and may sound a lot. This is 0.45 EUR per GHash. Compared to my #R-Box miner with 32 GHashes/sec. it has 1.87 EUR per GHash. This means that the larger miner is more efficient (more coins mined for lesser money per GHash). Well, now you need to calculate energy consumption in: R-Box=30-50 Watts, S5=590 Watts.
-
Same calculation for the #NewRBox: Replaced fan ( #Sharkoon ), 110 GHashes/sec, 99,- EUR which is 0.90 EUR per GHash and ~120 Watts.
-
So energy efficiency is: R-Box1: (40 Watts) = 1.25 Watt per GHash, New R-Box = 1.10 Watt per GHash and #S5 = 0.51 Watt per GHash.
-
This also means that if you are going to sell your old #R-Box you have to take the efficiency of newer miners into account which is 519 EUR / 1150 GHash/sec * 32 GHash/sec = 14.44 EUR for a never used miner.
-
@roland so in the end, what is the cost per GHash of each miner?
-
@dragnucs That is the "invested" (payed) price + electricity (each kWatt/h costs money, too).
-
@roland yes, I am just too lazy to find what values to add to get the cost per GHash/sec without machine price. The total cost is like f(x) = ax+b where 'a' is cost hash persec plus power consumption and 'b' machine price.
-
@dragnucs if you run a large "mine" like the Chinese one then you surely need to take rental (variable "c") costs and salary (variable "d"; for employees) into account.
-
@dragnucs Well, I'm just thinking here to maybe upgrade my rig (which is now fully down due to broken fans, yes, don't forget that: "e" for maintenance).
-
@dragnucs so all together: f(x) = ax+b+c+d+e
-
@roland Mining is clearly not a thing for me. At least for the moment.
-
@dragnucs yes, for me also. But I do it "for-fun". So currently I may not buy that large #S5 for myself.
-
@dragnucs I currently mine #PeerCoins. When I started mining them there was a network-wide difficulty of +100M. Now it it as 229M and 1.64P (Peta Hashes/sec). Still I can mine with an own difficulty of 31 (which is very much lower; yes, I didn't miss K or M) which still gives me a nice reward. :-) Currently I'm using my laptop as the main computer has a broken PSU. So I cannot look how much I "earn".
-
@roland What's the advantage of #Peercoin vs other #cryptocurrency such as #Bitcoin, #Litecoin, #Dogecoin, #Primecoin?
-
None coins are better than Dogecoin.
-
So null. Very undefined. Segmentation fault.
-
Wow
-
@lnxw48 I don't know all of them. But their (#PeerCoin) website explains that the faster your calculate the higher your own difficulty is. That means you can use a small ("slow") miner and can still earn an acceptable reward for it. That again means (or should in their view) that PeerCoins are "green coins" means you you don't need so high calculation power which saves a lot energy. Try to mine with a R-Box (32 GH) in a Bitcoin pool and then PeerCoin pool. (I did not yet do it with this).
