@andstatus Is there a way to display #private and #public dents differently? Also the same for !gs !gnusocial . I think people get confused about it which is private and which public.
@roland No clear difference. Moreover, in Pump.io you may have private conversation with several people. AndStatus works correctly, but a User is unaware if the conversation is private or not. AndStatus needs to be extended to analyze all recipients (now only the first recipient is taken into account)
@andstatus Yes, that is what is confusing people, which is a #private #dent and which is #public. Can you make a new menu selection "Private" (notices/dents/posts that are marked as private) or i there no #API or info available?
@roland I think @mcscx and @simsa0 explored 'private' notices on #q.se and wrote about it. I don't think they work the way people would expect, so best to avoid them for now. CC: @andstatus
@lnxw48 writing #private dents is quite possible, you have to go to the user's profile who you want to write privately with and tick the "private" checkbox. Then you start writing with him/her. I have only tested this with a local account, not any remote accounts. cc @mcscx @simsa0 @andstatus

At the date of editing (late 2014) we found them to work only in _private_ groups w/ a checked lock. They didn't work in private groups when the lock wasn't checked or in public grpups when the lock wasn't checked. But at that time we _didn't_ test @roland's proposal.
