@johnnynull I still use the Google apps. Those are proprietary anyway...
-
my new phone now is a #cyanogenmod Xperia Z1. Couldn't stand the Sony interface for 2 minutes.
-
@johnnynull I've been a CM user for years and always liked it (especially the ability to easily allow access to my private data on a per app basis). That's why I never looked around for alternatives.
-
@reiserin #cyanogenmod lost some of its appeal when it became corporate. But still at the moment it works for me...
-
@navigium Oh sweetness merry xmas to me we see you install arch, i still have a moment
-
@johnnynull I just checked out the OmniROM page. It looks like the Device I bought isn't supported. So it's not an option for now anyway.
-
@johnnynull but thanks for pointing OmniROM out to me. Definitely something to keep an eye on!
-
@navigium OmniROM is a project which recommends proprietary software: SuperSU.
-
@xrevan86 I thought that #OmniROM has been derived from #CyagenMod because Cyagenmod contains more #proprietary components and they (OmniROM) don't like it and has started their own project to get rid of proprietary parts.
-
@roland Nah. Also OmniROM is not a fork of CyanogenMod since lacks all it's features (or have a different implementation, but mostly lacks).
-
@roland Also both CyanogenMod and OmniROM are proprietary-free except for blobs. But Cyanogen, Inc. made some applications like Cyanogen Camera which are proprietary (this information might be outdated though) and OmniROM only integrates proprietary SuperSU in Settings (which is not surprising since SuperSU developer is involved in OmniROM).
-
@xrevan86 okay, so both is not free-libre open-source software. Hmm, I have to really send in my broken #opemoko #freerunner to upgrade it to a #gta04 model ...
-
@roland There are others, you know. Like MoKee, Paranoid Android, SlimLP…
-
@xrevan86 how about #cyanogenmod? Everything open there? (Of course apart from all them binary blobs)
-
@reiserin At the moment android works for me and with F-Droid there is even a way to conveniently find open source apps. But it's far from perfect! The best mobile experience I ever had was #Maemo.
-
@navigium Sure, plain CyanogenMod (not CM[0-9]+S) is free (apart from blobs, right :-)).
And so is OmniROM (no superuser application bundled at all with it).
-
@critialcloudkicker http://ldavg.so/fB. No, I mean firmwares and drivers :-).
-
@johnnynull I use Osmand more than Google Maps. For me it's the Playstore with some apps for Swiss maps and Threema.
-
@navigium Ugh, why?
-
@johnnynull you should start improving OSM, then ;-)
-
@xrevan86 some Switzerland specific apps I use for mountaineering are only available in the play store.
-
@johnnynull I usually record gpx tracks using OSM Tracker on Android and then upload them to use the online editor to add the streets I recorded. The wiki helps to figure out how to map what kind of street.
-
@navigium So, they are paid applications and therefore not available in 1Mobile? Or do they depend on Google Mobile Services?
-
@johnnynull Threema is ok. But still proprietary and non-distributed. For XMPP I use Conversations from FDroid.
-
@xrevan86 Threema depends on Google Push if you don't want it to drain your battery. And my favourite weather app is a paid one.
-
@xrevan86 what makes 1mobile trustworthy? I noticed that they also offer paid apps for free. Doesn't seem legit to me.
-
@navigium No, they don't o_0. Unless an application was once free, they also don't delete applications.
-
@xrevan86 Threema was never free and it's there.
-
@johnnynull well I need accurate weather info. And I haven't found any app that's more often right than WeatherPro. At least for Switzerland.
-
@navigium I also have a 1:00 am cofee instead
