cc: #feature for SN/GS much talked about, but still to come: parent retrieval http://oracle.skilledtests.com/search/notice?q=parent+retrieval
- Roland Häder likes this.

@erkanyilmaz isn't that already happening inside tree view of a convo?
-
no(t yet): @mmn was talking about the parent being downloaded automatically, but the danger is for #spam and alike. So, getting the parent when one #clicks was thought about. But: nothing yet implemented #HELPwanted
-
@erkanyilmaz @erkan @mk I would really welcome such "parent retrieval" function and I think it is somewhat "easy" to implement so that all !gnusocial and #StatusNet instances (please upgrade to GS!) can have it. #atwork cc @mmn

@erkanyilmaz it should not be essentially different from retrieving a dent by its ID - only as parameter you use the parent ID of a dent; I'm not even sure if you actually need a new API function for it, unless you want to use dent ID as input, and letting the call do the extra lookup
-
@erkanyilmaz the "if clicked on" part is of course part of the (web) UI - only the retrieval would be original API call or a new, slightly extended one (as sketched below)
-
@mk @erkanyilmaz for the sake of good code encapsulation, please don't put all in one function. This is going back in development history.
-
@roland that's what I'm saying!

@roland first, decide if it's really new functionality; next (if so) create the new API function for it; finally, create the UI to make use of the functionality. UI and API are very different things, at "opposite ends".
